Welcome to Double H Bakery

where family, ranching and fresh-baked joy come together.

Heim History

We began our family and career farming corn and soybeans in Western Iowa.  In 2019, we moved to Ewing, NE with a desire to ranch and focus on the cattle business.  We were immediately welcomed by the community!  Since then, we are grateful to each and every community member that helped us learn about our new environment or just simply stopped by and said “hello.”

The dream of the Double H Bakery is built on two foundations: 1) a desire to give back to the community and 2) provide a space for our daughter Clara, who has Trisomy 21 (Downs Syndrome). We envisioned a place where she could grow, work, and be deeply woven into the fabric of our community, a place where everyone belongs and feels at home.

We hope you feel relaxed and at home at Double H Bakery. It’s a sweet space that we hope is full of love, intention, and connection.

Heim Family + the Start of Double H

We’re the Heim family - Jake, Tamara, Jack, Clara, and Faith.

Our bakery journey actually began years ago in Iowa, but the dream to start fresh was rekindled during a simple, powerful moment. One day, our daughter Clara looked at Tamara and said, “Mom, I never want to leave you.” That moment sparked the vision: to create something rooted in family, built with purpose, and designed to serve our community here in Ewing.

Building History

When we decided to start a bakery, we realized we needed a building to make this dream come to reality!

After many calls and a few dead ends, Tamara was given Greg and Amy Jorgensen’s name and gave them a call.  It was an instant friendship!   The Jorgensen’s provided an opportunity, not only for a building, but the chance to preserve a little bit of Ewing’s history.  In July of 2024, we began gutting the building that once housed the American Legion.

Originally built in the late 1800’s with walls 3 bricks thick, the building lasted quite a while.  But after several leaky roofs the brick was in dire disrepair.  With the help of a wonderful mason the building was brought back to life.  Along the journey we had many other wonderful contractors who put up with all the headaches of restoration.  We also could not have done this without the help and support of Grandma Jo and Grandpa Jim, we are forever thankful for them!

We’re so glad you’re here and hope you’ll stop by, share a sweet moment, and become part of the story we’re building - one batch at a time.

Name + Logo

The name Double H carries more than one meaning and that’s exactly how we wanted it.

Yes, it represents our family name, Heim, but it also stands for the values that guide our lives and business: Harmony, Happiness, and Health. These words reflect not only how we aim to live but what we hope to share with our community.

We also wanted to honor our roots in the cattle business. That’s why the H in our logo was designed to resemble a traditional cattle brand , a nod to our ranching background and the legacy we’re proud to be part of.

As we dreamed up the name and logo, everything started to click, blending our family, values, and heritage into something we hope you’ll see and feel every time you visit Double H Bakery.
